About Us
Village Montessori School has cared for children from eighteen months through upper elementary since 1995 — in a community built on respect for the child, the adult, the classroom, the school and the earth.
Who we are
A village for children in Fulton, Cobb and Cherokee counties
VMS has been serving families and children in Fulton, Cobb, and Cherokee counties since 1995. As an AMI (Association of Montessori Internationale) recognized school, we provide high quality Montessori education through primary to upper elementary.
Our educational programs do much more than teach academics; they instill confidence, independent thought and a lifelong love of learning. These programs include an Assistant to Infancy program (18 months to 2 1/2 years), Primary program (2 1/2 to 6 years), Lower Elementary (6 to 9 years), and Upper Elementary (9 to 12+ years).
Montessori philosophy
Children develop in planes, so our classrooms follow them
Montessori philosophy is based on the work of Dr. Maria Montessori who was the first female physician in Italy. Through observation, Dr. Montessori discovered that all children develop in 4 ‘planes’ that are typically defined by a three-year period.
To foster the children in each Plane of Development, she believed that classrooms should be organized by the unique and growing developmental needs of each child. Mixed-age classrooms provide plenty of opportunities for the children to help others and learn from each other. The children learn by initiating and repeating activities followed by individual or group lessons given by teachers.
The greatest sign of success for a teacher is to be able to say, ‘The children are now working as if I did not exist.’

Respect, first and always
Village Montessori School’s fundamental philosophy is respect: respect for the child, the adult, the classroom, the school, and the earth.
Montessori educational methods are designed to foster independence, critical thinking, perseverance, self-discipline and self-direction, as well as to promote order, organization and the development of responsibility. Montessori education enhances a child’s self-confidence. The child’s natural curiosity is observed and nurtured, creating a love of learning.
Montessori believed the mission of the teacher was to prepare a child oriented environment and observe each child’s natural tendencies. The child is allowed freedom within this prepared environment to follow those innate tendencies along the natural path of development. Individualized instruction allows the teacher to meet each child’s needs at her own level of development or interest.

The impact of a Montessori education
Our brains are not fully developed until about the age of 25. Researchers suggest appropriate early stimulation can raise intellectual functioning, as measured by I.Q. scores, by as much as 20%. Achievement rates of children educated using Montessori methods are two to three times those of their peers. They also exhibit an increase in higher cognitive skills and interpersonal skills. Montessori education nurtures the child by introducing meaningful learning experiences that support brain development and meeting her full potential.
